Features

A High Solid Acrylic Urethane System for Improving Tiled Exterior Walls
CLEARWALL

CLEARWALL is a highly flexible and transparent construction solution for tiled exterior walls developed by Toagosei. With the application of CLEARWALL (an all-in-one base coat, middle coat and finish coat), cracked tiles do not always need to be replaced*1, as the application and treatment of the base material will prevent rainwater from penetrating cracked tiles or masonry joint mortar. In addition to waterproofing, it also prevents tile detachment*2, making large-scale tiled exterior wall improvement projects possible.

Conventional improvement work involves cracked tiles to be removed and replaced, but:

  1. 1The new tiles may not match the color and style of the existing tiles, impairing the appearance; and
  2. 2The replaced tiles may crack again in the future.

Which leaves lingering concerns.
Moreover, the removal of cracked tiles not only produces noise and dust but also results in generation of industrial waste.

CLEARWALL provides a clear and rich finishing that does not affect the style of the existing tiled exterior wall and provides long-term protection on the building from the elements.

Features

Design appeal

CLEARWALLprovides a clear and rich finishing that does not affect the unique style of the existing tiled exterior wall. The matte finish coat version of CLEARWALL (specialty acrylic silicone) can also reduce contamination.

Waterproofing

CLEARWALL is a highly flexible and transparent coating that stops rainwater penetration in cracks, prevents the outflow of efflorescence and prevents tiles from detaching.

Weatherability

CLEARWALL never becomes cloudy due to moisture in the base material and rarely yellows.

Workability

CLEARWALL is an economical choice as the coating process is shorter than other products.

High quality

CLEARWALL's reliable work processes* maintain and improve the value of assets.

*CLEARWALL is installed responsibly by members of the Japan Aron Coat/ARONWALL Waterproofing Contractors Association.

Improvement work for tiled exterior walls using CLEARWALL

ARONWALL has been preserving the longevity of buildings from the new perspective of external wall waterproofing for ALC finished exterior of RC or S buildings. However, the repair of tiled exterior walls demand matching the existing aesthetic design and texture, which was something that ARONWALL could not address. As a result, CLEARWALL that offers the same exterior wall waterproofing as ARONWALL, but forms a clear seal over the entire tiling joint was developed (launched in 2008). As tiled exterior walls have become part of responsible construction, we started insisting on total maintenance. In addition, using CLEARWALL to waterproof joints is also effective preventing tile peeling, which is one of the challenges of tiled exterior walls.
In fact, it is important to waterproof the joint mortars on tiled exterior walls. While the joints on a tiled exterior wall comprise of only 14-19% in square area, if they are untreated for water leakage, they can easily become the entry point for rainwater to seep through. Water seepage into the backside of the tile contributes to the deterioration of joint mortars, base mortars, and structural RC, which may cause tile peeling. While the frequently used silane-based water absorption inhibitor and repellents do not hinder the aesthetics of the tiles, but truth be told, they also cannot provide long term protection of the joints due to lack of waterproofing capability in the cracked areas. On the other hand, clear paints have the issues of cracking and peeling easily. In addition, water-based clear paint materials have the issues of efflorescence or yellowing due to water absorption expansion. CLEARWALL, as a durable and highly flexible transparent coating, works effectively in preventing rainwater seepage from cracked tiles or joint mortars and prevents water damage and tile peeling, in waterproofing improvement work on tiled exterior walls in addressing these challenges.
Floating tiles need replacement, but cracked tiles do not need to be replaced as long as they are not floating. It is effective in maintaining the beautiful appearance of tiles over a long term while preventing contamination on the tiles and joints. Furthermore, an application of CLEARWALL will make the joints appear darker in color, which gives contrast to the tiles and look as if it has been restored to the brand new state. In addition, it has also garnered attention in terms of preventive maintenance on new buildings, by applying a coat from the beginning to protect the property value on the building thereby reduce LCC.
