Ground Breaking Ceremony Held for Acrylic Plant in Singapore

On April 22, a ground breaking ceremony to commemorate the starting point of Toagosei's overseas acrylic operations was held in grand style on Sakura Island in Singapore. As is the case with ground breaking ceremonies in Japan, this ceremony was held to pray for the safe construction of the plant and future business expansion. It was attended by more than 200 people in total, including the chief of Singapore's EDB (equivalent to Japan's Ministry of International Trade and Industry) and other Singaporean government representatives, President Kosai of Sumitomo Chemical, Japanese representatives, including President Senda of Toagaosei, and representatives from the press as well as the finance, accounting and distribution industries. We were pleased that construction of the plant, which is due to be completed in July 1998, had actually begun.
