SILAS,a highly weatherproof water-base coating material, put on the market in February 1997

  • SILAS is a water emulsion for highly weatherproof paint, aiming at "being friendly to the environment" and "protecting base materials from the severe environment".
  • SILAS can be widely used not only for inorganic materials, such as concrete, tiles, and ALC, but also for metals, plastics, and wood.

Curing reaction and working mechanism of SILAS

Evaporation of water from the emulsion causes the particles to adhere, which in turn results in the reaction between the alkoxysilyl group (Si-OR), which has been stable in the polymer, and water to form silanol group (Si-OR).

≡Si-OR + H2O → ≡Si-OH + R-OH

The silanol groups thus formed react with each other to form a cross linked structure, resulting in the formation of durable film excellent in adhesion to the base material.

Si-OR + Si-OR → ≡Si-OR≡ +H2O
